As part of the Art Week lineup at Galería EXU × Villa San Jacinto, we had the pleasure of hosting a workshop led by Yuri Ángel Zárate and Olinka Domínguez. The experience was a resounding success, leaving participants immersed in an atmosphere of enthusiasm, reflection, and shared enjoyment.
The workshop was held in an intimate and relaxed format, fostering a close dynamic between the instructors and the attendees. This setting allowed each person to focus on their own creative process while remaining open to dialogue, observation, and the exchange of ideas regarding drawing and its expressive possibilities.
Throughout the session, participants worked on fundamental concepts such as shadow, line, proportion, and negative space. The exercise centered on a compelling visual premise: using a dark background and light chalk as tools to discover form, volume, texture, and contrast. This approach allowed attendees to sharpen their perception and explore new ways of constructing images starting from the light.
One of the most enriching aspects of the workshop was the ability to discover—through this specific technique—distinct visual and emotional narratives. Each stroke revealed not only a shape but a unique way of observing and understanding surface, material, and space. In this way, the practice evolved into an exercise of attention, intuition, and discovery.
The guidance of Yuri Ángel Zárate and Olinka Domínguez was essential to the success of the experience. Their close, generous, and attentive mentorship ensured the workshop was conducted with both depth and ease, making this activity a particularly valuable highlight of our programming.
At Galería EXU, we are thrilled to continue creating spaces where art is not only contemplated but lived, shared, and built as a community. Our deepest thanks go to Yuri, Olinka, and everyone who participated for making this day such a meaningful encounter.
