In commemoration of World Art Day, Galería EXU participated in a special edition of Art Talk at Soho House Mexico City. The session was dedicated to sharing our cultural vision, the context that breathes life into our project, and the work of artist Michel C.M., a Soho member and current exhibitor at the gallery.
The talk provided a significant platform to introduce the Soho House community to the universe of Galería EXU, as well as the historical, cultural, and architectural environment where our work unfolds: Villa San Jacinto, in the heart of San Ángel. During the encounter, we discussed the relevance of this space as a heritage site and a hub for contemporary art, where the memory of the location coexists with new artistic practices, voices, and sensibilities.
Building on this context, we shared the curatorial identity of Galería EXU, which focuses on exhibiting contemporary art with a conceptual and emotional perspective, fostering dialogues between emerging and established artists, and activating cultural experiences within a space steeped in history. The conversation highlighted how EXU seeks to build bridges between the artwork, the artist, the territory, and the community, championing a model rooted in proximity, reflection, and collaboration.
A central theme of the event was the participation of Michel C.M., whose work is part of the gallery’s current exhibition. The discussion explored his career, creative processes, and technical approach—notably his translucent textile collage and mixed media on lightboxes—elements that transform his work into a particularly unique visual and sensory experience. His practice allowed us to speak not only of materials and procedures but also of the way art can inhabit emotion, memory, and perception.
The talk also touched upon the origin of this collaboration: an encounter that began within the Soho House environment itself, where creative affinity and common interests led to a joint effort that has now extended to Galería EXU. In this sense, the Art Talk was not just an institutional presentation, but a reflection on how relationships between artists, independent spaces, and cultural communities can result in living, organic, and meaningful projects.
Another valuable aspect of the gathering was the opportunity to introduce the Soho House audience to the network of artists currently hosted by Galería EXU, showing how each contributes to a diverse, sensitive, and constantly evolving ecosystem. Through this overview, the talk offered a comprehensive vision of the EXU project and the context that drives both the gallery and its exhibitors.
Toward the end, the conversation looked toward the future: imagining more links between artists, more intersections between creative communities, and more projects born from these coincidences that can expand into new spaces. The final exchange with attendees sparked questions and impressions that enriched the session and reinforced the sense of community that defined the event.
At Galería EXU, we extend our deepest gratitude to Soho House Mexico City and its members for opening this space for dialogue, as well as to everyone who attended. We especially celebrate the participation of Michel C.M., whose presence made this talk an intimate, generous, and stimulating experience.
This encounter was, undoubtedly, a meaningful way to celebrate art: not only by exhibiting it but by discussing it, sharing it, and opening paths for it to continue building community.
