Olivia Guzmán studied at the Academy of San Carlos (1976), using various materials for her early works, such as oil and watercolor under the guidance of Hermilo Castañeda. During those years, she experimented with other techniques, such as ceramics and wood, as well as restoration techniques and the application of gold leaf, under Saúl Moreno and Cristina Molina.
The distinctive hallmark of Olivia’s work is its ‘broken’ or ‘incomplete’ appearance, with unrefined or textured sections, expressing the reality experienced by any human being of feeling incomplete. When contemplating Olivia Guzmán’s sculptures, the viewer recreates in their mind those missing parts, inviting reflection on the work and one’s own thoughts for a few minutes, imagining what that moment would be like if those missing parts were truly present.

Over four decades, she has worked in various creative spaces in her own studio with live models, bronze foundries, as well as marble and stone carving workshops. The theme of her work encompasses nude bodies in different positions, activities, and actions that evoke human emotions, as well as passages and religious creatures, historical characters.
Olivia Guzmán’s work is recognized by the Salon of Mexican Plastic Arts; she has had more than 42 solo exhibitions, and her works have appeared in more than 60 collective shows. She has exhibited in Mexico at: the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico, the Omar Alonso Gallery in Puerto Vallarta, the Siqueiros Cultural Polyforum, the Park of Nations in Mexico City; abroad in: South Korea, Spain, and the United States.
Her work can be found in individual and institutional collections in Mexico and abroad, in countries such as the United States, Canada, Indonesia, Malta, Chile, the Cayman Islands, Switzerland, Israel, and Bulgaria.
